Teaching Assistant

Become a Teaching Assistant at Mountfield Heath School part of Acorn Education and Care and start working towards yours.

  • £17,561.25 to £18,500 per annum
  • 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday
  • Permanent; Term Time only

Mountfield Heath School is a new independent special educational needs provision, for 32 pupils aged 5-12.  The successful candidate will support our teachers working alongside other support staff and therapists, to deliver the curriculum and help nurture a therapeutic environment to meet a range of needs including social, emotional, behavioural, communication and learning difficulties.

This opportunity is in Robertsbridge which is within commutable distance of Hastings, Royal Turnbridge Wells and surrounding areas.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will connect directly with the brilliant children and young people we care for, helping to make sure they get the very best from their education. Each individual has so much potential, and they will rely on you to guide their learning journeys.

You will help prepare learning materials and run classroom activities, with plenty of hands-on experience and some supervision too. You will take responsibility for their emotional and physical needs, supporting them to develop as individuals and engage with the world.

Supporting children with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs is important and rewarding work, and you will benefit from the tremendous support offered by our hugely experienced teams. As you help our children and young people achieve real and significant progress, you will enjoy having a direct, positive impact on their developing lives.

Who we are looking for

You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising children as they explore further afield.

Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE grade C or above in both Maths & English
  • Willingness to undertake training
  • Good literacy and numeracy

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Understanding / knowledge of Safeguarding
  • Understanding / knowledge of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
